Our story begins as many God stories do: in prayer. One night, while pastor Craig and I (pastor Gus) were engaged in an extended prayer and worship session, I felt impressed to turn to Acts 13:2. "While they were worshiping the Lord and fasting, the Holy Spirit said, 'set apart for me Paul and Barnabas for the work to which I have called them.'" As I read this passage, it was impressed on our hearts that we were being set apart to begin a new ministry together closer to the city of Boston.
We dedicated ourselves, along with our wives, to ongoing prayer and fasting for confirmation that we had heard from the Lord. The next step was soliciting prayer and council from trusted spiritual leaders and mentors.
This process of prayer and counsel continued for a full year and culminated in confirmation that we were to move forward with the church plant. During this time a vision began to increasingly burn in our hearts for what this ministry might look like. We envisioned a church of diverse ethnicity and socioeconomic backgrounds that would welcome both families and young adults. We envisioned a church dedicated to prayer and worship, cultivating an environment saturated with the presence of God. We envisioned a church on a mission to reach our community with the love of Christ. We envisioned a church that would shine the light of Christ, piercing the spiritual darkness over the Boston area. This Church became known as Light of Life Church, based on the words of Jesus in John 8:12.
A small core team was developed around this vision and began to meet at Pastor Gus' home in February 2015. The focus during this time was not outreach, but rather to equip the church planting team and establish a strong loving community that would become the foundation for the work.
In December 2015 the church was planted in Cambridge, Massachusetts in the Alewife Plaza at 153 Alewife Brook Parkway. God blessed us with a strategic location right across the Alewife T Station, with easy access to both the city, as well as the suburbs along route 2. Light of Life Church is now established and has begun shining the light of Christ in Cambridge, Boston and beyond.
What's your story? Where are you on your journey as a follower of Christ? You might be years into your journey walking with God, or maybe you are just beginning. Maybe hearing our story has inspired you to learn more about getting involved in what God is doing at Light of Life Church. Perhaps your story is meant to become part of our story. As we journey together lets let the light of Christ shine from our lives into the darkness, where countless souls will be redeemed for the Glory of God!
